A common skin disease, occurs due to blockage of pores by the dead skin cells and excess oil from the skin. It is characterized by blackheads or whiteheads, pimples and possible scarring.Acne commonly occurs in adolescence and affects an estimated 80–90% of teenagers and becomes less common in adulthood. Acne and the resultant scars can lead to anxiety, reduced self-esteem and depression.Risk factors for the development of acne are genetics, hormonal as in polycystic ovarian disease, infections, diet, medications and stress.
